Company Website & Branding Refresh
In preparation to go live with our game announcement and branding in tandem with GDC 2024, I worked with our company's communications director, Colin Cummings, to create a holistic upgrade to our existing company website.
During our initial branding pass in 2021 we made the strategic decision to keep our website light and focused on achieving our core business goals: hiring new staff members and introducing the company to early partners. Many planned aspects of our website were not brought online in order to have more time to build a great brand, as Nate Davis and I were our website developers in addition to our creative brand team.
Colin and I built on what Nate and I began by adding new functionality to the website: blog posts, new legal pages, a better hiring area, a Cygni teaser page, and a page for team info. We wanted the website to reflect the company's culture, so we went in the direction of "a crew setting off in search of new worlds." This would allow us to stay cohesive with Cygni's sci-fi Solarpunk genre but later allow the brand to explore new ideas and directions as we made new games.
To stay in theme with the "fantastical, hopeful new worlds" concept, Colin approached Jenny Yu (Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake, We Are OKR) to be the core artist for the company's new branding. Colin and Jenny worked directly with our leadership team and continued to expand the company's tone and brand from our logos and themes into an exciting, bright new world that perfectly captured the team's spirit.
